TIPs beta released!

August 24, 2007

The TIPs system contains articles and discussion about companies and their ethics. For example, details of worker’s rights, environmental damage and treatment of animals. Positive and negative information is included. The users of the system can also contribute articles and comments and rate the information. This generates overall scores for companies indicating how good they are in the eyes of the community. So the information and quick reference ratings can help you decide which companies you want to buy things from.

TIPs is also designed to be used when shopping on-line or in the supermarket or when just doing some research. A mobile phone application is in development that will send you the overall company scores when you point it at a barcode on a product in a supermarket. There is also an Internet Explorer plug-in (see below) available that will provide you with the scores of the companies that you are looking at in any web-page.

In the Price-Runner web-page featured below notice the extra ethical icon indicators overlaid onto the page and also the companies found in the page listed in the side-bar. The stars indicate how good the company is and can help you decide which company to buy from. More information is always available by selecting the company.
